66 years since the reports of UFOs in Roswell, New Mexico – the case that ignited a flurry of conspiracy theories extending to Project Blue Book, including movies and books – and Google decided to create a Doodle for it.
Personally, I think the Google Doodles are one of Google’s greatest inventions, not only from a design perspective but also and especially from an educational one. The fact that each Doodle has its story, whether it’s about an important figure or a historical event, and each has its local context (for instance, the Israeli Google Doodle on Independence Day will inevitably differ from the American or Spanish ones), enhances my perception of Google as a company that isn’t just seeking additional revenue sources.
I’m sure there will be cynics (or perhaps realists?!) who will say that it won’t be long before Google Doodles include advertisements, but until then, I will continue to click on the Google Doodle and enjoy the information it provides.
